Hiking guide to climb the Volcano Crater, Lake Janagdan!

Lake Janagdan is in the eastern part of Ormocc City and surrounded by green and diverse vegetation. It is part of the Aminduen mountain ranges, and is a crater lake measuring about 200 meters in diameter.

This crater lake is in the caldera of Mount Janagdan, an already dormant volcano. It is 1120 meters above sea level, and the hike would take about 2 hours.

After the cathartic hike, you will be greeted by the cold waters of the lake. There are kayak boats and life jackets for use in the area.

From Tacloban to Lake Janagdan

1. If you are coming from the airport, ride a jeep to Downtown and ask them to drop you near Duptours or Van Vans.
2. From Duptours or Van Vans, ride a van heading to Ormoc, Leyte. This will take 2 hours.
3. Upon arriving at Ormoc, either ride a habal-habal to Brgy. Cabintan or a jeepney via Ga-as at the Terminal near the public market.
4. In Brgy. Cabintan, visit their barangay hall and inform them of your intention to go up for a hike. Pay the fees and head on your way!

From Ormoc to Lake Janagdan

1. Head to the terminal near the public market, and ride a jeepney heading to Brgy. Cabintan via Ga-as.

Things to do at Lake Janagdan

1. SWIMMING
– Always wear a life jacket whenever you are swimming.

2. KAYAKING
– The available kayak boat may or may not incur an additional fee.

– Observe and explore the rich flora and fauna near the crater.

To bring when visiting Lake Janagdan

1. Bring food and drinks as fuel for the hike.
2. Bring gloves to wear along the trek as some plants might hurt your hands.
3. Bring money as there are no available ATMs or GCash withdrawal nearby.
4. Bring extra clothes to change into after the climb as you might swim in the lake.

Reminders when visiting Lake Janagdan

1. Soap, shampoos, detergent, and anything similar are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on the Lake.
2. Always wear your life jacket when swimming in the waters.
3. Wear clothes that cover your skin as some plants in the trail have thorns that can hurt.
4. Do not leave your belongings alone.
5. Bring a bag for trash collection to prevent leaving garbage along the trail.
